Terms to know about
Roleplay:
Godmodding:
This occurs when one person describes not only their own actions and emotions,
but also those of others who are not NPCs that have been mutually agreed as
fair game for control. This removes the choices of the other person one is
roleplaying with.
NPC: Any
character that is not controlled by the roleplayer. Example a child or partner
that has been character within the story but has no one to play them. The NPC
or NPCS will be inserted into the storyline by the person who has created them
for the bio or storyline.
Mary Sue: This
is a character that has no flaws or weaknesses, acts like a deus ex machina,
and demands the story to be centered around them.
Powerplaying: A
type of bad roleplay that occurs when a person gives their character an unfair
advantage by controlling another player’s character without their permission.
DO NOT DO THIS:
Character
Giveaway:This is for roleplay groups or in general when a character
is created, and someone wants to have them. So, the person or group which the
character is created for allows the person who desires the role to have them
without auditioning.
Gender Ban:
This is where there is an uneven ratio between the genders, or one gender is
favored over another.
FTB/Fade to
Black: This is used in the roleplay community to skip over anything
that some who is roleplaying a storyline wishes not to experience. This can be
something traumatic or sexual.
Time Skip:When
the rp ends at a specific point within a storyline or bio that implies that
further in-character (ic) activity will occur during that session, but not
being depicted at the current moment.
Trigger/content
warning: The content being written will be given a trigger/content
warning to give the readers the understanding that within the material will
contain content that may be sensitive for them.
OC: This term is
for an original character that has been created this can be from a show, book, movie,
history, or etc. This also relates to any character that has been created by
the roleplayer that has no links to a show, book, movie, etc.
OCC: This is for
outside of character. This is for breaking between character interactions.
IC: In
character interactions only.
rl and rp: rl
stands for real life and rp is roleplay. These two terms should never be mixed.
What happens in rp should stay that way and should not be due to whatever is
going on in rl. Yes! Everyone has real lives that can cause them not to be on
as much or have issues, but what happens in Real should never be involved with
Rp.
Novella: This
is used for the length that one may do. In general novella is from 5-10 para
but can also go even further than that. Each paragraph should have five or more
proper sentences.
Para: One
paragraph for a starter or reply that is given/done. A paragraph has five or
more proper sentences.
Multi-Para:Multi-para:
is generally 4 paragraphs that have within them five or more proper sentences.
One Liner: Just
one line that is given however has very little details to it. Most start out
this way and build up to para and onward.
CC: Canon
characters that is already apart of a particular fandom
Skeleton: This
is when a roleplayer or group creates a character’s basics and whoever takes
over the role expands upon what information is given.
AU: Alternative
universe, the use of the basic storyline of a fandom, or the use of a character
but is twisted to form something slightly different. Example: Piper Halliwell
not being with Leo and Prue Halliwell still being alive thus the power of three
turns into the power of four.
Crossover:
Crossing over two or more fandoms. Typical example: Charmed and Supernatural
being in one universe.
MutliVerse: Combination
of multiple different verses within the same time era and storyline
Playbyplay:
Whatever face that is being used for a roleplayer’s character.
